In Mpunde, mental health care was once an unimaginable resource. Before our intervention, there were no psychiatric services available, leaving individuals with severe mental illness and epilepsy without the treatment and madication they desperately needed. Stigma and lack of understanding further isolated those suffering, often leaving them and their families feeling hopeless.

That changed when Empower Through Health opened its doors to mental health treatment—a pioneering initiative in this underserved community. For the first time, Buyende residents gained access to a full-time psychiatrist offering comprehensive care, including medication.

The results have been life-changing:

2,301 patients with severe mental illness and epilepsy have been treated, giving them and their families renewed hope.
People once shunned due to stigma are now supported, with many regaining their independence and ability to contribute to their communities.
Families burdened by the challenges of untreated mental illness are finding relief and stability as their loved ones receive proper care.
